Lights on for the 2010 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix

Singtel Singapore Gran Prix 2010

THE FIRST AND ONLY NIGHT-RACE IN GRAND PRIX HISTORY IS NOW BACK!

The 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, with its signature mix of lights, glamour, and non-stop action, returns to the heart of the city at the Marina Bay Street Circuit from 24 to 26 September 2010.

Witness the F1 history, The ONLY Formula One Night Race! Reserve your seats and catch the action live at the Formula One Grand Prix Singapore 2010.

The Circuit

The Anderson Bridge, where Formula One cars reach speeds of about 200km/h, is one of a number of features around the Marina Bay Street Circuit that links Singapore’s past history with its exciting modern skyline. Other heritage buildings include the former Supreme Court and City Hall, the Fullerton Hotel (formerly the Post Office building) as well as the Arts House.

While Singapore’s heritage buildings form one aspect of the Grand Prix backdrop, this year’s race will also see new additions to the skyline. Close to Turn 18 in the closing stages of the lap, an eye-catching vehicular and pedestrian bridge, the Double Helix, is in the final phase of construction.

The Double Helix’s spectacular spirals of stainless steel links the upcoming integrated resort, Marina Bay Sands, to the trackside area near the Bay Grandstand. This new hotel and casino complex as well as the three additional subway stations which lead to the circuit park will open ahead of the race, making it more convenient for spectators to get to the circuit. While other destinations require expensive car rentals or lengthy coach journeys to reach the track, the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX is literally on many doorsteps! East West’s educational tour program for the CYC Group

33 outstanding students and 7 lecturers from the Community Youth Club (CYC) of Hong Kong made visits to Singapore and Malaysia last 16 – 22 February 2010.

This CYC Scheme is a student activity under the supervision of the Education Bureau of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Having the motto “Learn, Be Concerned and Serve”, this scheme aims to promote greater social awareness among students through community service, and implementing moral and civic value of life in the students.

This year’s visit initially took place in Malaysia whereby the delegates made temple visit at the Sau Sen Lum Chinese Buddhist Temple then, head to Dialysis Centre afterwards. The Group was also warmly hosted by Chinese families.

Their visit in Malaysia will not be complete with out having a group photo at Malaysia’s most famous icon, the Petronas Twin Tower as a background.

The second part of the program was their visit to Singapore. Delegates aim to visit communities, interact with the local families and most importantly with the local students during class sessions and activities within the school premises.

For the 3 day stay in Singapore, both students and lecturers were able to sit inside a class and interact with the local students during lecture and laboratory sessions.  Certificates were also given to each visiting student through a “buddy-buddy” approach whereby one local student is assigned to hand over the certificate to each student visitor. Participating Secondary Schools include CHIJ Toa Payoh Secondary School and Naval Base Secondary School.

The group was also able to interact with local community through the Neighborhood and family visits. The group was warmly welcomed by the Braddel Heights neighborhood community as they given a traditional Indian welcome by the members of the youth community. A short talk was also conducted by the RC Chairman to give them an overview of the community before the group was separated into groups as they were hosted by a  local Chinese and Indian family.

Apart from the main objective of the group, this trip was indeed a fun-learning experience as they explore Singapore with a breath-taking view from the Singapore Flyer, a drive-through tour to Little India and Chinatown, gallery visit and a stop to go and see the Dolphin Lagoon, Underwater world, Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom of  Sentosa.  They were also given a chance to watch one of Singapore’s festivals, the Chinggay Parade.

 Challenges

  • The trip was made during the festive days of the Chinese New Year where most schools are closed and most community council officers are on holidays

Outcome

  • With a dedicated team that handles this group, East West manage to arrange schools that can accommodate the students as well as community neighborhood and local families to host the delegation and even manage to invite chinese newspapers to cover the event.

A Sailing Good Time – Singapore

A Sailing Good Time – Singapore

For the 2nd consecutive time, Singapore Tourism Board had approached East West Executive Travellers for a one-of-a-kind program to host the Clipper Ocean Race teams for a day during their Singapore stopover after the overwhelming response received from crew participating in the previous edition of the race. Taking into consideration that the crew had gone to various countries on their journey across the world, the program had to be unique in order to create a lasting impression.

Challenges

- Cultural differences of participants
- Competing stopover destinations and their offerings to crew members
- Improve on experience from prior program run

Solution

To discover, explore, interact and experience as East West prepared an exciting and fun-filled trail of discovery showcasing the perfect mix of flora, fauna, food, history and culture of this small yet dynamic country. Armed with cluebooks, maps and brimming with enthusiasm the crew embarked on what can be described as “The Authentic Singapore Experience”.

-Clue book and activity management
-Logistics management and Routing of trail
-Coordination with various suppliers to bring the amazing route planned into fruition

Result

With a smaller group this time round, East West was able to deliver a more focused yet highly interactive and hands on experience which was truly appreciated. The opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in the delights of local Singapore – meeting with the locals and the chance to taste and see the sights and sounds of the country – left them with a greater appreciation for the destination and memories for time to come.
